Silvan Ulu Mosque

Silvan Ulu Mosque is a historic mosque located in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır province. Although there is evidence of a mosque dating back to 1031 in the region, the construction date of the Silvan Grand Mosque that has survived to the present day is recorded to be between 1152 and 1157, commissioned by Artukid Emir Necmeddin Alpı bin Timurtaş.

This historic mosque stands as a fine example of Artukid architecture in the region. Built under the command of Emir Necmeddin Alpı bin Timurtaş, the Silvan Grand Mosque may have undergone various restoration and maintenance works over time; however, it has preserved its historical atmosphere until today.

The architecture of Silvan Grand Mosque reflects the characteristic features of Artukid architecture of the period, carrying aesthetic and historical value. This mosque not only serves for worship but also offers visitors an important experience from both architectural and historical perspectives.
