Church of Virgin Mary (Syriac: ܐ ܕܝܠܕܬ ܐܠܗܐ Idto d-Yoldat Aloho), also known as Mor Yakup Church**, is a historic church located in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. This church belongs to the Orthodox Syriac community and has a deeply rooted historical background, estimated to have been built in the 3rd century.
The history and architecture of the church are quite rich. There are a total of 14 inscriptions containing information about the repairs and additions made to the structure. The oldest inscription dates back to 1533, indicating a renovation during that period. Over time, the church has undergone various alterations and repairs due to fires in 1648 and 1297, the renovation in 1533, the addition of the apse section in 1689, the Mor Yakup section in 693, as well as various repairs and additions in 1719, 1850, 1881, and 1914. The church has acquired its current appearance through a restoration carried out between 2004 and 2005.
The decorations on the door from the Late Roman period and the mihrab from the Byzantine period are particularly noteworthy. The church consists of two courtyards. The first courtyard, entered through the outer gate, contains the church building, lodgings, the entrance gate, and a small garden. The second courtyard serves as the church's garden, featuring another garden. The church is covered with a single-domed brick roof.
