Lala Kasım Bey Mosque

Lala Kasım Bey Mosque

Lala Kasım Bey Mosque, located in the historical district of Sur in Diyarbakır, is one of the significant historical sites and is also known as Lala Bey Mosque. Like other historical mosques in the Sur district such as Ulu Mosque, Behram Pasha Mosque, Şeyh Mutahhar Mosque, and Melek Ahmed Pasha Mosque, it holds importance in the architectural heritage of the region. Situated close to the Urfa Gate, this mosque dates back to the 15th century and was constructed during the Akkoyunlu period.

The architecture of the mosque is characterized by being a small, single-domed structure. It is named after Lala Kasım Bey, a notable figure from the Eğil Beylik. Constructed from cut stone, the mosque's minaret is also made of cut stone and has a single balcony. Despite the absence of an inscription, based on its architectural features, it is presumed that the mosque belongs to the Akkoyunlu period. Despite repairs conducted in various periods, the mosque's prayer hall and minaret maintain their originality. Lala Kasım Bey Mosque stands as an important cultural heritage site contributing to the historical atmosphere of Diyarbakır.
