Located in the center of Silvan, the Broken Minaret is an impressive structure that stands out as one of the symbols of the district. Built during the period of the Artuqids between 1199 and 1244, after the collapse of the Artuqid Mosque, the Broken Minaret remained standing alone. This stone-built minaret is square in plan and adorned with inscriptions on all four sides.
The Broken Minaret is a structure standing at 35 meters in height and consists of 5 floors. The windows in the upper part of the minaret have a different design from the typical mosque minarets. The reason it is commonly known as the "Broken Minaret" is due to the absence of its balcony (sherefe). However, thanks to its sturdy structure, it has managed to stand the test of time.
With its historical and architectural richness, the Broken Minaret is an important symbol reflecting the cultural and historical texture of Silvan. It offers visitors the opportunity to embark on a journey to the past and witness the history of the region.
