Keçi Burcu

Keçi Burcu is an important part of the Diyarbakır walls, which have been used for various purposes throughout history. Although the exact construction date is not known, it was repaired by the Marwanids in 1223. This bastion is built on top of a carved rock mass to the east of the Mardin Gate.

It is known that Keçi Burcu served a different function, particularly during the Byzantine period, where it operated as the Şemsi Temple.

Furthermore, the city walls and historical gates have been used as security checkpoints. This situation may be concerning for the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, as structures can be sensitive to such interventions.
